NEED HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!During the medieval period, which class of people had complete control of the land and whom did they divide?
The medieval period entended from the 500's to the 1500's. In the early Dark Ages, ';might makes right'; ruled. Whoever could seize land controlled it. As time went on, some people took more and more lands, either through war, inheritance or marriage, and became kings. They started giving land to favored people, who in turn gave smaller portions of land to their followers. By the later Medieval times, 14th century on, most places were ruled by a king at the top, who tried to consolidate his power at the expense of his nobles and certainly of commoners, who had only the rights granted by ';the crown';.
';The Late Middle Ages witnessed the rise of strong, royalty-based nation-states, particularly the Kingdom of England, the Kingdom of France, and the Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula (Aragon, Castile, Navarre, and Portugal).
';The long conflicts of this time, such as the Hundred Years' War fought between England and France, actually strengthened royal control over the kingdoms, even though they were extremely hard on the peasantry. Kings profited from warfare by gaining land.
There are clear signs of a growth in royal power during the 14th century, from the active persecution of heretics and lepers, expulsion of the Jews, and the dissolution of the Knights Templar. In all of these cases, undertaken by Philip IV, the king confiscated land and wealth from these minority groups.
England, too, began the 14th century with warfare and expansion. Edward I waged war against the Principality of Wales and the Kingdom of Scotland, with mixed success, to assert what he considered his right to the entire island of Great Britain. By this time, kings had come to believe that they owned and ruled everything by the grace of God. They spent the next several hundred years consolidating this power, which eventually led to the rise of modern countries.During the medieval period, which class of people had complete control of the land and whom did they divide?
After the fall of the Roman Empire, A fighting horseman and his assistants would be placed in charge of say, a small valley with all it's farms and people. These were the type of people who ruled Europe for over 1000 years.
This period is also called the Feudal Period. It is not as primitive as it sounds: There is a contract taking place. The horseman protects the people in return for a few nominal rewards from the people. In fact, in one Europen language, the name for Knight is ';Man who prevents your barn from burning down.';
