Debate Class: Birth Control for those under the age of Legal Consent?

I'm debating a bill in class. This Resolution would make it illegal for those under the age of legal consent to purchase birth control, unless they received a note from their doctor. What do you all think of this bill? I'm mostly looking for 'affirmative' replies since I've been assigned to fight for the bill, but replies in negation would also be helpful.

Also, there is the question of whether it is illegal for two people under the age of consent to engage in sexual activity. We discussed this and no one really knew the answer.

Sources would be amazing.

It is not illegal for 2 people who are Both under the age of consent to engage in sexual activity. It becomes illegal activities when one person is above the age of consent and the other is not. Sexual play among young people is quite common from the age of 3 until death.

I cannot help you with the affirmative because I see absolutely NO value in keeping contraception away from Any person who needs it. The states with the highest levels of teen pregnancy (Mississippi, New Mexico, and Texas) are also the states that do the most to prevent young people from accessing contraception. However, lack of access, obviously, does not stop young people from engaging in sex. In trying to force puritan morality onto young people who do not choose it for themselves in practice, you do not prevent a single person from having sex or becoming unintentionally pregnant. In fact, you increase teen pregnancy and STD rates when you deny access to contraception.

The nations with the lowest rates of teen pregnancy, teen abortion, and teen STD rates are also the nations who encourage comprehensive sexuality education in the public schools and also sponsor programs where teens can access contraception for free if they choose to do so (nations such as The Netherlands, Sweden, and most other European nations have the lowest teen birth rates).

Best of luck!

I cant believe there is even a debate, of course birth control should be available to all regardless of age. they are actually trying to pass a bill to ban it for certain ages? Oh my gosh americans are so stupid, anyone who honestly suuports restricting birth control for youngsters is a complete idiot regardless of whether its right or wrong for them to have sex.
I have thought about this before, but i can't come to a solid opinion because, no those people shouldn't be having sex, but there are always some that are going to, and they should get birth control. I think this is a really interesting debate though. Good Luck!
I agree with John B

And as far as I know it is illegal but I'm not sure of the consequences. This is for Alberta anyways.
i agreewith the bill

they can get it, but they need a prescription

if theyre under the age of consent, there a reason they shouldn't be having sex
