i've noticed during my last 3 or 4 class presentations that, even though i'm not nervous, my voice shakes like crazy which makes me SEEM really nervous and coincidentally makes me nervous lol. i have no problem reading aloud in class, acting something out in front of a class, even leading a class discussion.. but for some reason whenever i present a project my voice shakes really bad and once i notice it, i start sweating and shaking because i'm so self conscious about my voice. the only advice i've gotten is to imagine ppl in their underwear and... it doesn't work. How do I control my shakey voice during presentations in class? Why does this happen if I'm not even nervous?
I had the same thing happen to me when I was in college. Now I can address a group of 1000 without a tremor.
The secret is to rehearse A LOT. Use a video camera to record yourself then continue to do that until you do your presentation like a pro. If you prove to yourself your not going to look like an idiot up there, you will be a lot more confident. During your speech make eye contact with a different person when making individual points. Change the eye contact person after each main point is made. That way it's like your just having a conversation with one person, but your still addressing the group.
By the way, it is nerves that make your voice shake, and once it starts it's impossible to get it to stop. How do I control my shakey voice during presentations in class? Why does this happen if I'm not even nervous?
Most answers that I give are too verbose for words,,,but your question has only one answer in my opinion. P R A C T I C E !
i have the same problem only my hands shake really bad. I find that it helps a lot if you don't think about when you have a presentation. like you know how people say imagine yourself doing this or that well before you go to sleep, that does not help me at all! so stop doing that, unless you can do it strictly positive. if you start to worry or think about it, calm yourself and go do something to keep your mind busy. I also find it helps if you breathe really deeply once you start shaking and focus on one thing and dont look people in the eyes (look at their noses or foreheads this way it seems like your making eye contact). just keep this up and it will slowley go in time. good luck.
:) I've been there...still do sometimes! NOOOO, don't imagine anybody in their underwear!!! I would always pick a few spots right above the head of a few people in audience..then it looks like eye contact, but not really. Even though you don't feel nervous, you still might be! Maybe start with some breathing techniques? Or, try chewing gum right before or a hard candy....I know it sounds crazy, but has worked for me! Or, whenever possible, break the ice with something funny/fun/quirky! GOOD LUCK
