How do I deal with a college english teacher who can't control her own class?

Taking interim college english comp and I have only 8 weeks to cram 18 weeks worth of work. The load is tough but the work gets done! The problem here is with the way the english comp class is being taught. This teacher seems to have a real problem controlling how some of her students behave in class. It's a small class of only 14 students. I do attend every class, but most of it seems to be spent on nonsense and we have many discussions that are unrelated to what we are suppose to be learning. A younger student (only 17) seems to be running the class and making comments when anyone else wants to express a varied opinion. This teacher can't seem to control this problem. Disruptions and disrespect is all this class has been so far. I have talked to her, and she doesn't seem to have any control over it. What can I do? I can't afford to take these classes over but because lack of instruction, I am starting get behind. She spoke to the student but nothing has change. Advice? How do I deal with a college english teacher who can't control her own class?
I would get together with your teacher outside of class and ask tell her (politely) that you have a problem with the lack of authority in her class. See what she says and see if she tries to change it. (If I were her, I would talk to the student and tell the troublesome student to straighten up or drop the class). If this doesn't help I would go to your teacher's boss and make a complaint...possibly to the dean, maybe, I'm not sure. I know that it might sound harsh, but you are paying for this class and trying to learn, so you have the right to how your money is being spent. Taking a class over because of something that is not your fault is crap and a waste of your time and money. Whether these disrespectful students are wasting the money of tax payers, their parents' money, the school's money, or their own money, they should know better. My guess is that they aren't paying for their own school or they would take it a bit more seriously. Your teacher should know how to deal with students, but at the same time college students should be old enough to know how to act in class. Take control of the situation and don't take no for an answer. Good luck! How do I deal with a college english teacher who can't control her own class?
I would speak to your professor and let them know. If that does not work, talk to the dean of that department. Make sure you make notations of your discussion with the professor before you go to the dean.

I had the same problem in some of the classes I had to take with undergraduates. They would talk and talk and most of the professors would not speak a word. I finally told them to stop talking and that did nothing. I went to the professor and he did not say anything, so a group of us waited after class and we all spoke to the professor together and let him know our feelings on the situation. By the time they quit talking the class was over.

Hope it gets better!
