Im having a debate in my law class and im on the ';for it'; side. how can i start a debate about gun control?

i never wanted to be on this side but the professor just so happen to put me over there. Im having a debate in my law class and im on the ';for it'; side. how can i start a debate about gun control?
Your stance is not about whether or not guns are safe or reliable or a good idea. Your stance should be ALL about freedom of choice. People shouldn't be banned from weapons for use of hunting, collecting or defense, because the government has NO RIGHT to tell people how to live. YES there should be regulation on the buying and selling of guns because, like prescription drugs and getting a driver's license, the right to have a gun requires responsibility and accountability, and there is always the potential for misuse.

So just really press the issue of ';yes there needs to be regulation'; but also argue a LOT for ';no, the government has no right to tell people how to live';Im having a debate in my law class and im on the ';for it'; side. how can i start a debate about gun control?
Just research the ideas and motivations of that side of the issue. There is a ton of information on the Internet! Read articles, statistics, policies; anything you can find. Here's a website that looks like it has a good bit of information: http://www.justfacts.com/guncontrol.asp. You might start there. I'm sure your teacher picked a controversial issue, and didn't allow students to pick their own sides, so that you would be able to expand your knowledge base %26amp; learn to argue something you maybe don't agree with 100%. If you can do that effectively, you will be even stronger in arguing the things you do believe in. Good luck!
Can you 'bend' the topic to crime control?

Knives, guns, etc are just tools - people control them, not vice versa.

If your viewpoint is that the Government is the defining body of safety and security in the nation, then it is only logical that the Government control all weapons. [Look to the UK for examples].
