College writing class argumentative essay: Should the gov. control the foods offered in schools?

Obesity in children is becoming a huge problem in our society today. The government is imposing specific laws to eliminate all fatty or sugar based foods (junk food!) in schools. For example; kids won't be allowed to bring in cupcakes or cookies for their birthday treats anymore, etc. The cafeteria will not sell any type of sweets or fatty junk foods for lunch. Everything offered will be natural or fresh...no deep fried foods, pizza, ice-cream, candy bars, etc.

Do you think that the government should control this to help our kids learn about a healthier life style or should that be left up to the parent?College writing class argumentative essay: Should the gov. control the foods offered in schools?
I think schools should serve nutritious food and snacks. They don't need soda machines and all that. Schools should be teaching nutrition as part of overall learning, in that light no junk food should be sold by the school.

It would be great if everyone ate healthy.

Should the school chose a no junk for the classroom rule re: parties ect. thats fine, but what parents chose to put in their childrens lunch sack should be entirely up to them.

The Gov. should be for the people by the people, not parenting in spite of the parents.College writing class argumentative essay: Should the gov. control the foods offered in schools?
Yes because since we live in a litigious country some kid will keel over from a heart attack at 13 because he/she ate like hell, played X-Box all day, and his over 32`weight parents will sue the city and state he/she lives in costing the city/state tax payers hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees. And this is before the judge issues a judgment.
Here's how I would set it up.

Yes, I do believe government should regulate food consumption.

Reasons:

-A student in a govt public is under govt jurisdiction.

-Health care costs would be reduced.

- It is better for society for the kids to be healthier

-It is the government's duty to protect its citizens, by regulating food intake, the gov't is protecting future investments (kids).

-If free speech is limited in public schools, why not freedom of food choice?
