The cameras that I'm considering are the Pentax K110D, Sony DSC H2 and the Nikon D40. I am just a beginner. Thanks.I'll be taking a class which requires a digital camera with manual controls, which camera should I buy?

Get a Nikon or Canon (used is not a bad way to go to start). You will later be able to find some good used lenses for it. Instead of the D40, take a look at the D80. It will use more of the older lenses than the D40.
Sony is out because they use a proprietary memory card.
